For a Christian, 2 Corinthians 9:7 sets the tone about giving. The focus of this verse is not about how much we give, but in what spirit it is given.
“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under any compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” — 2 Corinthians 9:7
Our starting point should be to give thanks for the grace that God has given to us and an appreciation that whatever money we have belongs to God. While the New Testament does not give us instructions on how much to give, it gives us helpful guidance in that our giving should be:
Planned, Regular and Proportionate (1 Corinthians 16:1-4)
Cheerfully and Freely Given (2 Corinthians 9:6-8)
Done Privately (Matthew 6:1-4)
Generous (2 Corinthians 8:1-12; 9:5-13)
When you consider to what causes you should give, then giving money towards your Church should be given a priority. If God’s work is to flourish, it needs to be properly resourced; and the primary responsibility for resourcing God’s work lies with God’s people.
Paul was very thankful for the gifts he received from the Church in Philippi. Paul described these gifts in Philippians 4:18 as a “fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.”

At Lansdowne Church, we have invested in new staff and a new building which needs to be maintained. These investments have been made solely to grow God’s kingdom here in Bournemouth and beyond. With more resources, we can have an even greater impact for Jesus.
Accordingly, if you are regularly attending Lansdowne Church, and certainly if you are a member, we ask that you regularly give money to the Church, as you are able and as your heart guides, to resource God’s work here.
Our prayer is that we do not see this only as a financial matter. Rather, it’s an opportunity for all of us to give thanks for all that Jesus is doing amongst us and, as a response, to give cheerfully to His work here at Lansdowne which, we pray, will be a “fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.”
